a guide to camping in jervis bay

Jervis Bay is the perfect weekend getaway from Sydney! Just 3 hours south, it’s easily doable, even just for one night really. There’s tons of camping and cute beach side cottages available around Jervis Bay Territory. I’d recommend camping, as this tiny beach town can be quite pricey for the older bed and breakfasts and homes you’d find on Airbnb, and there are some pretty spectacular campgrounds right on the beach.

We took a campervan and it was SO MUCH FUN! We rented from Wicked Campers (see the photo of our van below), but be warned they have some pretty funky vans (and some highly inappropriate 😂). Campervans are amazing because you never need to deal with the main annoyances of camping - unpacking then repacking everything. Instead, you just bring everything with you at all times!

The beaches in Jervis Bay are absolutely stunning, with the most crystal clear water and white sand that I’ve seen in Australia to-date. Our friends we were with compared the beaches in Jervis to the Whitsundays - and it’s a much cheaper tropical getaway than that, as the Whitsundays are going to cost you.

There’s plenty of hiking trails and beaches to check out in Booderee National Park, but I’d also recommend checking out Huskisson’s marina & main street area, filled with restaurants and bars, right near the beach. We also rented a boat one day and I HIGHLY recommend that for some boating and snorkeling. We hopped around to all the different beach coves and popped in for a swim at all the best spots!
