Joe and I headed up north to Mendocino County a couple weekends back to visit the cutest little spot near Point Arena, CA, called Oz Farm. Oz Farm is bordered by a redwood forest and the Garcia River and tucked away in a hidden valley along the Mendocino coast, about 130 miles north of San Francisco. The ~3.5 hour drive from the city is absolutely breathtaking along the northern California countryside and coast!
This was our cozy cabin - The Newbird cabin
Oz Farm is a working farm growing organic produce on their grounds, but is also a quiet, getaway destination filled with a handful of secluded cabins and yurts throughout their luscious green property (a whopping 240 acres!) The facilities, including the cabins & yurts themselves, along with the community kitchen, barn, and other amenities are super rustic and perfectly adorable.
They host weddings, retreats, and is a great spot to just getaway and get completely off the grid. I'm talking no cell service, no noise, pretty much nobody around you... pure relaxation. All we could hear at night was the occasional rain (is this winter season over yet!?), the fire cracking and the stream right alongside our cabin. It was absolutely peaceful and very romantic! The entire property uses solar and wind power for all of it's operations (sustainable energy), which is pretty damn cool too. Their community kitchen is an awesome place to hangout, with all the cooking tools you'd need. You can bring your own food, like we did, and make healthy & delicious meals!
I thought it'd be a perfect place to check out not only as a quiet getaway, but also because we love to hike. Oz Farm itself, as well as the surrounding towns, both have a good variety of hiking trails! We stayed in the Newbird cabin, which is "glamping" at its finest. It was the cutest and coziest little cabin, just perfect for this pair of newlyweds! There are 7 different cabins and yurts throughout the property that each sleep 2-5 people, and Domes which sleep 8-10! The cabins have outhouses and outdoor showers, so be prepared to be one with nature! :) You can check out all the cabin options here.
I absolutely love buying local produce/products/etc. and so that was one of my most favorite parts about Oz Farm. They grow organic apples, pears, and a large variety of vegetables right on their property (more info about their produce here)! Their produce and apple juice/cider blends can be found at restaurants and natural food stores in San Francisco, the wholesale market, local farmers' markets, and schools, so look for their brand around the city!
In the neighboring cities, there's a ton to do. Mendocino has a cute downtown area with lots of shops, restaurants, tasting rooms, and scenic views. Joe and I have visited Mendocino before and absolutely loved this charming little town! Point Arena has a cute little downtown "main street" type feel with a few restaurants, bars, shops, and cafes (my favorites being Franny's Cup and Saucer and Pier Chowder House and Tap Room).
