It's that time of year again -- San Francisco Restaurant Week is right around the corner, returning Jan 21-30, 2016. For foodies in the city, this is a great way to explore San Francisco's 100 best restaurants and save some money while doing it. All of the participating restaurants create a pre fixe menu (either for lunch [$15 or $25] or dinner [$40 or $65.]) This gives you the opportunity to try a 2+ course lunch or 3+ course dinner at a discounted price.
San Francisco Restaurant Week (#SFRW) is partnering with Superbowl 50 this year. Their charity, The 50 Fund, is helping to close the opportunity gap between low income children and young adults in the greater Bay Area. This is an amazing cause, so you'll be able to feel great (and full!) knowing that $0.25 for every dollar sold through reservations made on OpenTable for SFRW cover wll go to The 50 Fund. You can see the participating restaurants and make your reservations directly on OpenTable here.
A lot of these restaurants offer paired wine tasting with the meal for an additional fee (typically pretty equivalent to the price of the meal itself). An insider tip to save some money and still get your buzz going is to bring your own bottle of wine as most of these restaurants have a corkage fee arund $20. That way, you know you like what you're bringing, and you can save a few bucks!
These reservations will fill up extremely quick, so to get into the best restaurants, act fast! I just snagged a dinner reservation at Aatxe for Joe and I. Aatxe opened in April of 2015 and is run by Chef Ryan Pollnow. The restaurant focuses on celebrating regional Spanish cuisines. As you all know, from my time in Barcelona, Spanish-style anything is always close to my heart, so Aatxe seemed like the perfect choice for SFRW 2016! I initially heard about Aatxe a couple weeks ago on the SF Eater's Heatmap: The Hottest Restaurants in San Francisco Right Now, January 2016. Check it out to add some restaurants to your foodie bucket list!
